Off to Bookclub – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2007

Some books make me nervous, and others make me laugh
Some books aren’t about what’s on the cover photograph
Some are really scary, and others really sad
But you can bet at Bookclub a good time by all was had
I’m off to Bookclub, but I didn’t read the book again
I’m off to Bookclub, gonna sit around and trash the men
I’m off to Bookclub, ‘cause it’s really more about the wine
I’m off to Bookclub to have me a good time
Sometimes the books are trashy, the hostess gets to pick
One book was so graphic, I actually got sick
Some books are by women, and others are by men
I don’t much care so long as I can be with all my friends.
I’m off to Bookclub, this month I read it to the end
I’m off to Bookclub, gonna make a list of fantasy men
I’m off to Bookclub, cause it’s really more about the beer
I’m off to Bookclub, but I’ll return, don’t fear.
Some books are so boring, they act as a sleep aid.
Others are so sexy, my husband he gets . . .  lucky
Sometimes we read novels, so far we’ve read a bunch
We mostly read so we can get together every month
I’m off to Bookclub, to talk about the book we read
I’m off to Bookclub, probably end up talkin’ ‘bout our kids instead
I’m off to Bookclub, ‘cause it’s really more about the booze
I’m off to Bookclub, now it’s my turn to choose
Someday I’ll write a book about being a mom
And how a woman’s girlfriends keep her sane and calm
I think it will be serious, but witty smart and fun
‘Cause it’ll be about the hardest thing we’ve ever done
I’m off to Bookclub, gonna write a book for all of them
I’m off to Bookclub, think I’ll dedicate it to those men
I’m off to Bookclub, ‘cause it’s really more about the friends
I’m off to Bookclub, and I’ll be here til the end
I’m off to Bookclub, don’t want this night to end
I’m off to Bookclub, don’t tell me how it ends.

Just Another Day – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2009

My day was just okay, a kind of grey and ordinary day
That’s all I really have to say
Tomorrow will be just fine, searching alley ways for some small sign
That I’m going the right way
And I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
And I didn’t get to do all the things I needed to
My thoughts keep leading back to you
Life’s piling up around me, all the undone yesterdays you see
And I still don’t have a clue
And I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
Just another day – just another day ay ay ay
My life story has been told as I sit here growing old
And my dreams have all been sold
What happened long ago to that girl I used to know
Can a different life unfold?
And I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
I have another day tomorrow like the day I had today
Ay ay - The day I had today, ay ay,  -The day I had today, ay ay
                    The day I had today  - The day I had . . . .

With Abandon – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2010

She’s in and she’s out, she’s up and she’s down
She’s lost and she’s found out
She’s in and she’s out, mostly she’s out now
She’s spinning and dancing around
She’ll dance with balance, she’ll dance with grace
Dance with abandon, a smile on her face
She’s out and she’s in, she’s down and she’s up
Found and she’s lost it
She’s out and she’s in, mostly she’s out now
She’s spinning and dancing around
She’ll dance with balance, she’ll dance with grace
Dance with abandon, a smile on her face
It is your light she’s reflecting
It is because of you she shines
So don’t go and take your light away
It will return to you in time
She’s in and she’s out, she’s up and she’s down
She’s lost and she’s found out
She’s in and she’s out, mostly she’s out now
She’s spinning and dancing around
            She’s spinning and dancing around
            She’s spinning and dancing around
            She’s spinning and dancing,
            And spinning and dancing
            And spinning and dancing
            Around

N'Affirmation Song – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2011

This is not who I am - this is not who I want to be
You just see what you want – but you don’t see me
This is not where I stand -this is not where I want to be
And it’s out of my hands - I cannot find me
            And I don’t wanna do what’s easy
            And I don’t wanna do what’s fair
I just gotta do what’s right for me
            I can’t carry your share
And you can say it’ll be okay - and you can say I love you
You can say what you want to say – but you never follow through
This is not about you - this is not about any one thing
This is all about me - and this place I’m stuck in
This is not something you did - and it’s not something you haven’t done
But it’s not all my fault – we can’t blame anyone
            And I don’t wanna do what’s easy
            And I don’t wanna do what’s fair
I just gotta do what’s right for me
            But it’s not ‘cause I don’t care
This is not who I am - this is not who I want to be
But it’s out of my hands - I cannot find me – I cannot find me

Swept Away - words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2011

I have no right yet here I am, stakes and mallet in my hand
Roll up my pant legs, remove my shoes, attempt to lay my claim to this land
Below the high tide line, to keep the kids at bay, I drive my stakes into the sand
I wrap the twine around, weave it between the stakes, to form a barrier - this is my stand
I come again, again, and again - my stakes are swept away
I come again, again, and again - nothing ever stays
I come again, again, and again - I am swept away
I sit and watch the tide come in, I shake my head as it recedes
As one by one my stakes disappear, they drift away among the reeds
I often wonder about the path they take, should I follow where it leads
What would I find there among the rushes something to finally fulfill my needs
I come again, again, and again - my stakes are swept away
I come again, again, and again - nothing ever stays
I come again, again, and again - I am swept away
No one owns this land below the high tide line
This daily flooded land will not support my sign
Or this line drawn in the sand
I come again, again, and again - my stakes are swept away
I come again, again, and again - nothing ever stays
I come again, again, and again - I am swept away

The Ballad of Goody Hallett – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2011

She was a young barmaid and for him did fall
But he was a pirate – he heard the sea call
He followed his heart – broke hers on the way
And never returned to her, not to this day
What would Goody Hallett do?  She’d cast a spell on you
I think you’d better run – because Goody Hallett’s come undone
She bore him a son who died in her arms
Just a few hours old, she’d done him no harm
She cursed the boy’s father who’d chosen the sea
And with that sealed the fate of Black Sam Bellamy
What would Goody Hallett do?  She’d cast a spell on you
I think you’d better run – because Goody Hallett’s lost her son
Her choice got her cast out, and known as a witch
They called her a harlot, a whore and a bitch
Some say she still wanders the dunes in the night
Be she ghost or a witch, she’s an unholy sight
What would Goody Hallett do?  She’d cast a spell on you
I think you’d better run – because Goody Hallett’s come undone
They say that she laughed when the Widdah went down
Black Sam never surfaced, the word is he drowned
So boys listen up, for now you’ve been warned
You’ll meet your demise when this woman’s been scorned
What would Goody Hallett do?  She’d cast a spell on you
I think you’d better run – because Goody Hallett has a gun
And she’s not afraid to use it

Mary – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2011

I’m not Mary, I can’t save you
God knows I’ve tried
Cause I’m no angel, ain’t got no halo
No wings to help me fly
My sons can’t walk on water
There ain’t nothin’ immaculate about me
            I am my father’s daughter
            Tryin’ to break free
And you’re no Jesus, you can’t save me
I don’t know why you try
Cause I am broken beyond repair
But I can’t remember why
So lead me not into temptation
I’m sorry for leading you astray
            Consider my salvation
            Send me on my way
And maybe Mary will come and save me
I pray to God she’ll try
She’ll send an angel to fit me for a halo
Teach me how to fly
And I am just a woman
And you are only a man
            No divine intervention
            No sacred plan
Yeah I’m no Mary, I don’t wanna be saved
So please don’t try
Cause I am broken, never had no halo
Guess it’s time for me to fly

Spark – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2005

Who I am to you, is different than who I am to me
Or who you think that I should be
It all comes down to chemistry
You spark ugly things in me, I’m sure I do the same for you
But what’s the girl to do? What does it mean to be true?
True to you, or true to me
I just need to be myself
Maybe I need to be by myself
So that I can finally see
I do know one thing that’s for sure
Should you come knocking at my door
I’d welcome you into my house
But never in my head again
Never in my heart again
Never give you that much ammunition
Never give you that much ammunition
            Against me ever again.
And no one ever knows

Broken – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2010

We come to the beach searching for something
No we don’t know what thing but it’s just out of reach
And the beach welcomes us and sorts out the voices
We make some new choices and slowly become us

Some race to the water with reckless abandon
And quick stick their toes in and nothing’s the matter
And others steer clear they stay on the dry sand
Read the book in their hand still the journey has taken them here

And we are all broken like the shells we pass by
In search of the whole ones which happen to catch our eye
Yes we are all broken but we are beautiful
And nothing is perfect still we all feel the pull of the beach

It’s never the perfect still, prone to the crack and peel
You’ll live on my windowsill where you’ll catch my eye
                        Maybe I’ll catch your eye

But whatever the reason and whatever the season
We all find ourselves on our way to the beach
We’re searching for something, but we don’t know what thing
But whatever it is well it’s just out of reach

Some come here to walk and to think about life
Some to fly kites and to watch seagulls flock
Still others are fishing the buoys are ringing
And some come for singing and dancing and wishing

And we are all broken like the shells we pass by
In search of the whole ones which happen to catch our eye
Yes we are all broken but we are beautiful
And nothing is perfect still we all feel the pull of the beach

I Will Come if You Will Call – lyrics: Lauren Wolk, music: Ryland Hall ©2010

From atop the scarlet mountains, from the canyons I will come
From the moors of blushing heather and the deserts I will come
From the doubter that I’ve been and from the dreamer I’ve become
From the fields of ash and tinder, from the river I will come

I will come from silver darkness when the stars have not yet set
When the moon is sweeping upward with a light I’ll not forget
And I wonder what I’m here for so irrelevant and small
I will come if you will call me, I will come if you will call

            Call me, call me

If you call I’ll leave the rubies that are just beyond my reach
And the ocean that is waiting out beyond the golden beach
And the road that keeps me walking when I am moments from a fall.
I will come if you will call me, I will come if you will call.

String – words & music by Kathleen Healy © 2010

You’re not really here - I don’t think you ever were
And now you’re disappearing into the ether
So for now just lay low ‘til it’s clear

And I have taken myself so far out of context
I don’t know anymore where I belong
So for now I’ll write a new song

            A mirage - a bad dream - train wreck – disaster
Please stop the slow motion - move faster, move past her

And we did this thing on a wing and a prayer
And one small string that has left us undone
So for now looks like nobody’s won

            A mirage - a bad dream - train wreck – disaster
Please stop the slow motion - move faster, move past her

So for now looks like nobody’s won
So for now looks like nobody’s won

Bass River Lullaby – words & music by Kathleen Healy - © 2009

Lazy summer morning, comes without a warning, I am a child once again
Salt water in my hair, petrol fumes hang in the air, musty orange canvas ‘gainst my chin
Time passes slowly by, no clouds are in the sky, reaching for buoys we glide past
Seagulls are singing, ship bells are ringing, no need to travel very fast

Leave no wake, make no waves, ebb and flow, just let it go

The water’s surface is like glass, undisturbed til his first cast at the rock pile today
We drop the anchor down, try not to make a sound, don’t want to scare those fish away
We’ll go swimming later on, when the fishing is all done, we’ll jump in a float around
No where we need to be, adrift out on the sea, good times and memories abound

Leave no wake, make no waves, ebb and flow, just let it go

Leave no wake, make no waves, ebb and flow, just let it go

When the sun begins to set, pull the boat in at the spit, light a fire, cook the fish
Glowing embers light the night, we take sticks and we sky write, close your eyes and make a wish
We drift to sleep on the way home, eyes heavy with sea foam, tide is rocking me to bed
And now years later when I dream, I can call to mind this scene, river flows inside my head
The tide is rocking me to bed
